Iam Sportz

For someone who usually only perks up when I see trails footage I could always watch Ian Schwartz ride all day. The creativity, simplicity and control were appealing and he always reminded me what fun just cruising around on your bike can be. Although everything he put out was quality, it was his System Video split and Up, Up and Away part that really stood out for me. I wasn't too surprised when he announced he would be leaving Sunday to concentrate on farming. Jeff Z did a great interview with Ian where he elaborates on the thinking behind the move and I thought it was funny that the real meat (farm joke?) of the decision happened in San Francisco. You can always blame the Bay Area (and maybe Jake Honesto?).

Whether people move away from BMX altogether or just let it take a backseat to other important pursuits I think we all know that bike riding is something that stays with you for the rest of your life. The freedom of coasting. Visualizing something and then making it real. The time spent with friends. Exploring a new city or a patch of woods. The sense of satisfaction that only a few will understand. Feelings worth chasing. And if you find something that feels that good, no matter what it is, you gotta do it. Have fun.

Bonus: A ridiculously effective drinking game? Watch an Ian video part (Sunday works best). Drink everytime he cruises backwards, or forwards with one pedal casually down. You'll be wrecked.
