Checkup

Went to the canyon yesterday, just to check on it. Stuff looks fine, the little rain that happened recently still has the place pleasantly damp. If anyone wants to ride it let me know and we will come up and unlock. with two more hours of work (that I should have done the day i hurt myself instead of riding) the whole place would be running (2 lines at least). Also check out Travis Kizer's site in the links. Trails not Rails. well put.

ill leave you with a snap cover (my favorite magazine, bring it back) with van homan on the cover. Probably shot by Keith Mulligan in DAVE REUSS' backyard. Back in the WOS days.
and here is a picture i stole from aaron days myspace without his knowledge or consent. picture by kyle. also daves house

yesterdays

another edit, probably the last one i will do with this old footage. as soon as I get my new battery and my old lens I will move on to bigger, better, or at least newer things (maybe a web video mike?). This one is long, slow and borders on boring. but hey thats me.

original content

here is a little preview of the edit I have been working on with all my downtime... This was all from one tape that i captured, so once i get some more new footage and capture 2 years of footage things will really get rollin...which is probably right when I will heal and abandon this. oh well.

trailbeat from jackson allen on Vimeo.

went to post office for a big post-sea-otter-mountain-bike-jump-jam today. saw some pretty impressive riding from all the big dogs. brandon semenuk, alex reveles and jd swanguen are prettygood at throwin those big (little) bikes around. being hurt sucks...oh, my dad (team sasquatch canyon's head bike mechanic and engineering genius) put together an awesome road bike commuter for me with some parts I had and sweetheart of an old frame (pics soon). he loaned me his roller set too, so I will be back on the bike by next week, and in front of the tv at the same time. yes!

and here is the jon robinson video i told people to go to recently. it is too good to miss...

Soquel Mountain Madness

spent some time with dusty and mike out at their trails today. you cant watch action movies all day every day..that place is amazing. the trails are brought to you by tecate and AM 1340. Mike and Dusty have the craziest/best lines in their heads for that place, come out and help us make them real. A skatepark line is in the works to lure you park rats out to the trails and steal your lunch money.
you cant fix a broken camera, but you can try. I took some shots of the trails, and tried to take a few of the action. stuff is still getting ridden in, but Dusty and Mike were flying through it today. Mike told his bike who was boss..smacked it around a bit.

otis thought the place is amazing and sprinted around to celebrate. dusty does a hippy hop in the background

otis with a cranked lookback

jumpoff

mike(looks like it is taken underwater, with some superb timing)

Dustle and Flow

shoulder still immobilized but feelin a little better. sunshine and trails are pretty good even without your bike.

Jon Robinson video, well worth the cut and paste effort. following lines at the trails without a helmet cam. yup. http://www.twentyvelocross.com/MEDIA08/RadJon.mov

ps. and look what i found young zakattack and jimbo coles gettin rad with the euro action in sunny san diego

from the archives

been looking through a ton of old footage and there is some pretty good stuff, ill see what i can do with it. after being spoiled with HD and 3 chip cameras none of it looks very good but some good times were had..

where have all the cowboys gone?

oh, there they are..RIP

about an hour before my shoulderdeath

Ryan is so tall, he makes this beast look small, but the ramp was a full 10 feet. boost.

separation anxiety

so, you cant really tell, but this is not the way a healthy shoulder should look. yesterday i went to the trails to finish "beer run" and met with a mishap. I had forgotten something in my car, so I rode down the hill and rode the wallride in the valley on the way down. I nearly went down the first time, so with "one more time" in my head, i gave it another go. Somehow I flipped over the bars, and went straight to the point of my shoulder. Otis was the only soul there, and if he could have driven me home he would have, but instead I had to drag my broken body out of the trails, to my house, where I showered (cause I knew I would be at the hospital all night) and then to the e.r. I have a Grade 1 AC joint (shoulder) separation. I will be in a sling for a few weeks and off my bike for six....bummed.
Nicole has been great, helping me do just about everything and for now I am just watching movies and hobbling around...I plan on using the time to get my new road bike runnin, maybe film and edit some video and generally be productive. cant wait to get back on the bike.
here are a couple of shots of the trails from the day of the accident. I actually got my video camera to work and filmed a couple of clips so hopefully i can get those up soon.

even sasquatch gets the blues..

on a lighter note, local boys Jim Tharpe, Wyatt, Ian and some others went down to SD for a mountain bike contest and I saw this photo over on liquid dirt, where you can find a photo credit..shit im lazy.

canyon days

I unexeptedly got most of the day off, so after Nicole and I jumped in our freezing cold country pool to escape the 89 degree heat, we went out to the trails for a bit in the evening. i took a couple of pictures of the lines and she took a couple of pictures of me. the trails are starting to get very dry :( I knew it would happen, but just didnt think it would happen this soon. we will probably have to start bringin water in by bucket eventually. for now there are some puddles to drain.
Also a suprise guest came up today, hopefully he will be back to ride soon.

the old and always problematic s-turn entrance

the new and improved s turn exit

scary line

this picture is a little blurry but you can see part of the cheater line..the little landing has a double down roller afterwards then the bridge and then there will be a lip that jumps into the big landing accross the creek. call it "beer run"

Nicole likes this jump. I like Nicole.

i dont go fast, i just fly low..or something

flotsam and jetsom

i remember how excited i was about this photo when it ran in his interview..they said that was three years ago..im gettin old fast

wow.

Bmx Trails short vid from Tom C on Vimeo.

saw this recently...soo good. i was just listening to this song the other day and thought, "so what if this already got used in a trails part (adam baker s&m video) I would totally use it for a video" well here you go..some england trails clips, which are amazing on their own but then the catty footage is well...just watch it.

went out to the trails this morning. finished a wooden bridge that goes over the creek. think fbm ghetto comp, not mountain bike bridge. or somewhere in between. mike and dusty came out, threw some dirt and talked about neil young vs. lynyrd skynrd for quite a while. i think neil won. a pretty good morning.took a couple runs. trails feel great. mike says this has to go up, and it does

this site has tons of goodies

Red Bull's Elevation contest is gonna be moved from Canada to Mexico for 2008. Why they gotta skip us? oh well, if you read the article on the ridebmx site it sounds like the location is amazing and the riding will be on point of course, but they failed to mention who will be building the course. come on. Elevation wouldn't be the contest it is without Dave and Gilly, and all the other people who made that course..it does sound like the new location has trees though..awesome.
who needs the x games anyway..rallycars

Pretty sure this is Darren Read...yup

creekcross

Every week for the last month I have made a bunch of crazed phone calls to a few people all over the country. they go something like this: "Hey (insert name) I did it!! I jumped across the creek!! well, actually there was no landing built and I had to jump off my bike but yeah its doable." Then I would call back the next week and tell them the landing was there, but the jump before would have to get bigger cause I had to jump off my bike...Well, I made my last round of calls last night. the trails officially run. Mike and I were out there working on some sasquatch carpentry for the new line, so we decided to ride a little bit. mike shredded in his work boots. I had been waiting for a while, since we pushed the jump out of the s-turn around to make it bigger and had to let it dry.
after a few attempts (and some high speed eject buttons) I jumped accross the creek and rolled away. no pictures. sorry. but soon. the jump is right around 25 feet (a little over or under depending on where you land on the landing). It could still use a little work, so that is is fun, rather than sketchy. (When Dave Reuss was told about the bailouts he asked "Jackson, are you building sketchy jumps?" the answer is...maybe)
the new line we are working on is gonna give an alternative way across the creek, so you can still have a beer and ride out there. should be fun. maybe pictures of the new line soon.
also santa cruz county has recently been diagnosed with the most awesome problem on the planet. we have too many sets of trails. i cant get out to ride all the awesome places, cant get anyone up to the canyon to ride even when i offer to buy beer, and dusty and mike cant get me outta the canyon to help them (even though they dig up there all the time). im a stubborn asshole. Hopefully The bullet and the rest of the Murdock Mountain crew will come up and ride again, this time at the canyon too.

This is someone's family crest...im so jealous. beer and trails. it is in someone's blood.

also i couldn't figure out how to post this video but i highly recommend going to fbm site then to media section ( http://fbmbmx.com/media.php ) and watch the black and white trail video. i love that song!

rainy days, airborne

a picture of mike shredding from last summer...picture by davereuss. more can be found at www.davereuss.com

rain has returned just in time to finish the new line: named airborne. it needs a lot of work but when it is done you could start secondplace in a train, pass by jumping over someone, get passed back, then jump over them again and pass back, and then if you were an idiot you could land on eachother. shared landings will make for scared landings. anyway, the name airborne comes from this awesome movie...

(which, if you havent seen it is about a gnarly downhill rollerblade race which the main character totally cheats in and wins by jumping over people. f-ing lame)

i used to work at a video store so...yeah, i watched a lot of bad movies and now taking it out on the trails. so we have, cool runnings, airborne and next year mavericks and maybe "the air up there" (you know, the kevin bacon movie about recruiting africans to play basketball)

ill leave you with a video of some austin trail days with mickey marshal and some other dudes, maybe jason sunday? i cant tell. any day at the trails is a good day..
