SpongeSPot

FunSpot is going away soon, sooner than we all probably realize. Will we use this to move it? Try and get down there and say goodbye to your favorite squishy structure. New park should be awesome, but that isn't a reason to forget all the good times we had. Maybe a funspot wake this weekend?

British Bosses

some serious shredding from the forte's and then Martyn Tambling. I guess you could say I just forted. And then a not so British dude, but I figured I would group it with other SuckTube clips cause I hate how they play/embed/advertise. Inman shredding at a bunch of awesome spots including POW if you look close.

Death Trap Tuesdays...

Combine a big wheels and half of a shopping cart. Seems like a great way to send your kid hurtling into oncoming traffic, and 360 seems like a little bit of an exaggeration judging from the video. and I recently got really stoked on some BMX swap meet article I saw (but for the life of me cant remember where) and glimpsed this deathtrap...Slingshot made mountain bikes as well, which seemed slightly more acceptable, as it jived with the general kookiness running rampant in the woods at the time. And as long as we are talking about deadly slingshots.. note: all the action is in the last 15 seconds of this video so feel free to skip ahead.

Case of the Mondays..and gas

So, I had indigestion/heartburn so bad today that I had to stay home from work. Apparently Mike isn't the only person getting old in Santa Cruz. There is something on the Dig site about Reuben's Hip. Pretty large. Also, Reuben May or May not be coming to Santa Cruz in May. I guess that makes it a May-be. Sasquatch Canyon Rumor Mill. Here is one of my favorite reuben sections (minus the song).

I lifted this quote from a blue falcon interview seen on clickedbmx.com. I think it speaks for itself.
So Falcon, being that you make peoples top 5 riders of all time lists so often I was wondering if you have a top 5 of all time and if so who?
Mike Aitken, Mat Hoffman, Chase Hawk, Joey Garcia, and I’m leaving #5 blank because there are too many names coming to mind.
Below are two of my dream bikes I found while weighing in on the new Deluxe V brake frames. I'm a huge Deluxe fan but I know these frames have already been outlawed at Chunky Hills due to the berm-destroying-skidfest they would undoubtedly cause. Apparently modulating your brakes is not a necessary skill for making the Olympics. So just buy the 990 mount ones.
The Canyon is looking good these days but there are dark clouds on the Horizon. More about all this later, but lets get out there and ride while we can.

Weekend Update

Mike turns 37 today so everyone wish him a Happy Birthday. Mondays aren't that fun, so we decided to celebrate this weekend. Rode a couple sets of amazing trails, and partied with Mike's family in Castroville and camped in the backyard like we were all kids.

Otis made a friend. It was a pretty smooth transition from the backyard to the trails with all the sitting.

The funniest thing about this is that it isn't the first time these trails geniuses have showed up in identical outfits.

One can dream...

Big Rock Candy Mountain

One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I'm not turning
I'm headin for a land that's far away beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we'll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain't no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks
I'm a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

I'll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains

I Wanna Party with Those Dudes...Part 6

Wanting to party with these no brainers, is well...a no brainer. Also, Bill and Ted truly embody the essence of IWPWTD, and fully realized my dream of traveling through space/time to party down with the notable dudes of the past like Socrates, Napoleon, Ghengis Khan, George Carlin and even Death. Mornin'

Sometime soon I'll try to get a little Texas Toast Post together. In the mean time enjoy other crap cause the internet never sleeps...or at least it sleeps while moving with its eyes open like a shark. I am almost positive I have posted this before but can never get enough of it. Looks like a blast to ride.

its own post...damn.
Robbo's 'Up In Smoke' Bonus from Seventies Distribution on Vimeo.
I guess Villij trails, seen in this video, got half plowed recently. A goddamn shame, cause they are obviously amazing. The locals are doing their best to save the other half of the trails. I bet anything that can be done will end up on deluxe or build the woods.

Happened Across

Its strange what you find while walking down the sidewalk that is the internet. Here is a video of Jay Flores and everyone's favorite saw-jockey, Shanesaw riding a ditch. And here is something I had been looking for for awhile and thanks to Nick at inthegnar my search is over.

Flooding down in Texas

On the first day in Texas I woke up on the floor to thunderclaps and dogs barking...Stevie Ray Vaughan wasn't kidding. We made the best of it though and got some riding in. Ryan dug up this old video part, and let me convince him to put it up. Mostly footage from 2003 I think. Some amazing stuff, volume on the audio seems a little low, so pump up the volume.

I Wanna Party With That Dude Part...Texas Toast

As you are reading this I should be in Austin, Texas partying with one of the sweetest dudes ever, my friend Ryan Fowler. He may not be a rock and roll legend or a malt liquor swilling smooth talking Star Wars character (although he does some good impressions), and he didn't invent the mountain bike (even though he did ride them real fast when he was a little kid), but he is definitely one of my favorite human beings. Ryan moved to Texas a few years ago and Santa Cruz definitely misses him. His talents seem limitless and excels at almost anything he tries. Most importantly he has a big heart. So raise your glasses. We will be raising ours. most photos by Dave Reuss

Ryan and I are gonna be roughly where the dog and cat are in this photo. And Ryan is taller so I guess that makes me the cat?

The things I saw

A lot of open road. The Patron saint of trail riders? P.O.W. stands for "Party on Weeknights?" The trails up north are always amazing. Perfectly shaped, scary fast, and more poppy than Afghanistan...and unfortunately carved out of poison oak. The new video from P.O.W.S., "Welcome to Jefferson State" is going to be awesome. It might even have some riding footage to break up the naked Jeremy Kaiser clips.
This thing needs a little work. These rollers are not from this trip, but are a recent and pretty weird find.

BAY ST.

Joey Cobbs and Jarrod Allen just dropped their new web-zine project Bay Street and it's a treat. The first article is about the Lipton Warehouse project and there is a ton of other great content. Can't wait for more of these. Also, back from an amazing trail-cation, but more about that later.

VACATION

Vacation time isn't meant to be spent blogging, so don't expect much until Monday the 13th. Chris Reisner and I are going to a Jefferson State trail paradise and I'll even take in a Giants game, and spend some time with my canines...ideal vacation. Here one of the best video parts ever to hold you over. Mark Heshnandez fully approves of the song choice...

I think I should make a tape of "Sounds of the Trails" to fall asleep to, like a Rainforest sounds type thing. The audio for this video whould work pretty well.

Canyon footage

Louis already came through with this edit from yesterdays first runs at the canyon! Me, Mike, Jordan and Louis riding with Dusty Reilly and Ben tending to the fire.

shea nyquist

This is probably making its way around the internet right now anyway (i saw it on SJBMX) but I had to post this. Filmed entirely at Fun Spot and Post Office, beach boys soundtrack and just general WTFiness.

I wanna party with that dude! Part...mediocre (4)

For once I am almost too tired from riding to put together a blog. The trails are running (at least part of them, and we stayed out until dark with a little fire, photos to come.) First session of the spring for the Canyon and it was pretty good. I guess this is kind of the anti-installment. It looks like I have been drinking all day in this photo, what with the pirate glare and what looks like a tecate, but in reality it was all PG-13, I have a Dr. Pepper in hand, and think it was just a little bright out. I don't particularly want to party with Tony Hawk, at least not the Tony I met in this photo, but I can't say I wouldn't be down to look for Animal Chin sometime. Oh and this guy was there too, who I also have little interest in partying with.Ha, Rooftop drinks Mountain Dew! EXTREMO! I did think of a couple of good IWPWTD episodes for the future, but a lot of them are either date specific or would be time consuming to construct so I will sit on them for a bit. Check back next week for a better installment when I have the week off from work. In the mean time, we have a weekend to enjoy! Trails and some beverages to all. France knows how to do it! part of a Vincent Perraud Photograher spotlight seen on deluxe. Tons of good content over there right now, including some VA trails.

There is a hole in the Photobucket

Always thought that was a funny name, photobucket. Well, that is exactly what mine has turned out to be, some place to dump photos before they make it to the blog. This morning I was looking for a specific photo, couldn't find it, but came across some stuff that made me smile. A lot of these have been on here at least once, but I think there might be one or two making their debut.

Dusty does some of the best tabletops I have seen, but I can never quite get a good photo, although this one is closer than some.
Some BMX surf action.
Joey Chernoff recently came down for a bonfire and we were talkin about this photo, didn't realize I had nabbed it from SJBMX awhile back. The infamous "Shells" trails. Photo Lloyd Ramsay. Mountain Biking isn't about what kind of bike your riding, it's a state of mind bro.

Our 2008 landscaping project, Dirty Dreams Construction.
Jordan is about to spin like a wheel of fortune right behind me. More hair more air. Watsonville! Summer in the SLV is the best. TransparentBMX collage a couple years back. Some of the prettiest wood out there. I think we talked about trying to make wallpaper out of this place. I have dreams about this line. Calling you out Mike! Bring it to dirt..Looks like more than a tabletop though, breaking club rules.
Seen on defgrip awhile back, one of Harrison's many posts about interior design. The april fools joke that TCU and Defgrip collaborated on was pretty enjoyable.
